Jennie Appleyard
Jennie Appleyard (Emmanuel, 1981) has worked with young people her whole working life, in Youth work, Children's Social Care and Further Education.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion has always been a core foundation of her work, from choosing to be "out" as a lesbian long before it was safe or common to do so through to striving to be an ally to young Trans and Non-binary students.
Through Jennie’s Sexual Health work, she has tried to respect everyone's choices and give them the resources and space to have the relationships they want.

In 1986 Jennie helped set up Getaway Girls, an innovative youth project in Leeds, featured in the DIY SOS Big Build in 2023, where she continues to act as a Trustee.
Jennie has regularly sat on the University and College Union (UCU) LGBT+ Members' Steering Committee, and has spoken at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) LGBT+ Conference.

Jennie lives in Leeds with Avril, her partner of 30 years. They have two children.
